The New York Yankees plan to have interest in some of the top available players during the trade deadline. With some of the questions the Yankees have to answer on both sides of the baseball, it only makes sense if New York is aggressive. 

I don’t want to say one need is bigger than the other, but the Yankees landing a catcher who can come in and make a difference for them should be at the top of the priority list. The question for the Yankees is whether the Minnesota Twins decide to sell. 

There’s an expectation that Byron Buxton isn’t going to be traded, but according to the latest from CBS Sports, there’s still a feeling that they can move on from Joe Ryan and Ryan Jeffers, with Jeffers being the guy the Yankees would love to have.

“The 32-year-old Buxton has been on a rampage the last few weeks, hitting .297/.351/.672 with 25 home runs in his last 55 games. The Twins are only two games out of a wild-card spot in the woebegone American League, though it seems unlikely they will buy significantly at the deadline. If anything, they could still sell, with righty Joe Ryan and catcher Ryan Jeffers among their top trade chips,” Mike Axisa wrote.

Reports have indicated that New York has registered some level of interest in Jeffers. There’s a chance that the Yankees aren’t going to trade for him until right around the trade deadline, as Minnesota could hold out until it gets the best possible offer. 

In that area, it wouldn’t be ideal for the Yankees, but as long as they’re ready to go come October and have guys like Jeffers around the roster, there’s reason to believe things can work out.
