Giancarlo Stanton has made his return to the New York Yankees. 

It was revealed on Tuesday morning that the slugger is on the roster for New York’s upcoming Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox. 

Despite spending several months on the injured list with a trio of calf strains, the Yankees feel Stanton is ready to play. 

However, his role on the playoff roster will almost certainly be limited to a pinch hitter. 

Due to Stanton’s return, the Yankees had to remove another player from the 40-man roster. 

According to a team announcement, the Yankees have designated right-hander Alexander Cornielle for assignment. 

Cornielle made his Major League debut on Friday, allowing two earned runs, including a solo home run, in the ninth inning of a 6-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles.

The 25-year-old struck out two and walked one of the seven batters he faced in the frame. 

He signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2019 and spent most of the 2026 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in New York’s system. 

It was fairly obvious the Yankees weren’t going to carry Cornielle on the Wild Card Series roster, so this move makes too much sense.
