It would be pretty surprising to see the New York Yankees move on from Anthony Volpe at the moment, and much of that is because it would amount to admitting defeat.
In years past, the Yankees haven’t really wanted to do that, and it’s obvious at the moment that they don’t want to as well because they would have moved on from Volpe a long time ago had that been the case.
However, others are starting to believe that it’s a real possibility. In fact, The Athletic even named him a possible trade candidate, adding that Volpe just isn’t the same type of guy that he once was, and his former status as a top prospect with some years of control left could entice teams.
“At this point, Volpe is who he is. By metrics, he plays solid defense, even if the eye test suggests otherwise. He’ll likely never top the 21 homers he hit in 2023, and strikeouts will certainly continue to be a problem. His remaining years of control are enticing, as is his pedigree as a former top prospect,” The Athletic wrote.
Don’t get me wrong, if Volpe could be attached in a potential trade to get a player the Yankees want, it feels way too easy to make this trade. However, I don’t think that’s going to be the case, and unfortunately, that’s something the Yankees are going to run into here. I don’t know if I would just trade him to get rid of him, but I do think it’s time to probably part ways if it’s possible.
