Wyoming vs San Jose State Prediction: Battle For A Bowl Game?

There are several strange schedule curveballs in college football this year, and San Jose State’s 13-game slate could be one of them.

The Spartans are playing well, winning three of their last four, and if they pull this off against Wyoming, there are just enough winnable games left to make this a potentially successful season.

The Cowboys were shut out by North Dakota State 28-0, but the remaining schedule is solid, and they should be able to get to six wins if they can pull this off.

Go full Wyoming. Keep it slow, the scoring low, and hold on and pull through late, with the running game grinding away when needed late.

This is hardly a dominant Cowboy offense, but it keeps on handing it off and tries to keep the ball from going into harm’s way. Wyoming has yet to get close to 200 yards on the ground, but it’s been able to get over 110 in all five games.

San Jose State is 3-0 when allowing teams to run for fewer than 110, but that’s because most of those teams stopped running and kept throwing. It’s 0-2 against teams that ran for more than 110 yards, and USC and Fresno State both ran more than 30 times.

Try to get scoring fast and make Wyoming try.

The Cowboys have a good balance to the attack, and they’ve been able to hit a few plays down the field here and there, but they have yet to throw a touchdown pass against an FBS team.

The bigger overall problem is the team’s inability to score. It managed a grand total of 23 points in the three road games and lost all three. San Jose State is hardly a dangerous place to play, but the Spartans don’t have to deal with the altitude of Laramie.

Don’t be shocked if this turns into one of the best games on a Friday full of interesting matchups.

No, it won’t be anything to cancel date night for, but the late night battle will be close throughout, with both sides desperately trying to get up two scores – points will come at a premium price. At home, San Jose State will generate a few more.
