WooSox return home with a few rehabbers, Bello and new alternate jerseys

· · 3 min read

The WooSox finished the official first half of the season with a 36-35 record and last played a home game on June 7. The second half of the International League schedule starts Tuesday as teams begin with 0-0 records and will play the next 75 games (through Sept. 20) to determine a second half champion and the opponent to take on the first-half champs from Memphis (AAA-St. Louis) in the International League playoffs that run through Sept. 22-24 in Memphis, TN.

This week, Worcester welcomes Boston Red Sox rehabbers Romy Gonzalez (left shoulder surgery in March, left hip flexor soreness) and Patrick Sandoval (left elbow surgery in 2024, biceps discomfort) to the Canal District. Gonzalez will most likely play in a few AAA games after beginning his rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on June 16.

Sandoval is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday and Sunday. Recently demoted Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello is scheduled to start for the WooSox on Thursday.

All weeknight home games will now take place at 6:45 p.m. from now until the last week of August due to schools being closed for the summer. The WooSox will roll out their Worcester Kelley Squares alternate identity on Saturday.

Welcome to Worcester! We’re bringing the OG Kelley Square from the streets to the field. Exit 13 is back, and the only peanuts here are sold in bags.
