Women’s inclusion key to stronger democracy – IPAC deputy chairperson

The National Deputy Chairperson of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim, has called on women across the country to become more actively involved in political party administration and decision making processes in order to strengthen democratic governance and ensure inclusive representation.

Hajiya Ibrahim made the call on Monday in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, shortly after the conduct of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, election at the state secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The election resulted in the emergence of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Taraba state, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, as the new chairman of IPAC in the state.

Speaking after the exercise, Hajiya Ibrahim emphasized the importance of women’s participation in political leadership, noting that greater inclusion of women in party administration would enhance democratic development and contribute to more balanced governance.

According to her, democracy thrives when all segments of society are adequately represented in the political process, stressing that women possess the capacity and leadership qualities needed to contribute meaningfully to political decision-making.

Meanwhile, the Taraba state chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, was unanimously elected to lead the state chapter of IPAC for a two year term.

The election was observed to have been conducted peacefully, with delegates from 17 registered political parties endorsing his candidature.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected IPAC chairman expressed gratitude to members of the council and delegates for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work diligently to foster unity, mutual understanding, and cooperation among political parties operating in the state.

Alhaji Bawa assured stakeholders that the council under his leadership would remain impartial and committed to its mandate of promoting democratic values, political tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among political actors.

He further stated that his administration would prioritize dialogue and collaboration among political parties, particularly as Taraba state prepares for future electoral activities.
