WNBA fans fume over fake $30 fine to Dream and Valkyries over national anthem controversy
Angry WNBA fans have called out the league over a fake $30 fine.
The Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries choosing to stay on the court during the national anthem in Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals has made bigger headlines than the matchup itself.
Many have described this as disrespectful towards the US, and fans want both teams to be punished before Game 2.
An X handle took advantage of this and claimed that the WNBA has allegedly fined the Dream and Valkyries $30 each for their actions.
WNBA fans didn’t know the $30 fine for Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries was fake
The viral fake post on X was posted by ‘Fever Updates.’ A handle notorious for spreading fake news, and it seems succeeded in doing so this time around.
$30?!?!? What a disgusting message from the WNBA. Enough is enough from this league,” a fan wrote. While another added, “Shameful. Just shameful.”
“The fine should be at least $10,000 per player,” a third fan stated. A fourth fan chimed in, “What a joke. That is why the WNBA need new leadership.”
“Suspend them. 10 games. No pay. Make it hurt,” a fifth fan reacted while demanding harsher punishment.
Now, here’s the thing: The WNBA hasn’t fined the players at all. Not even a single cent. For some, this may look like a further insult following the national anthem controversy.
But it could simply mean that the league is discussing an appropriate punishment for the players’ actions behind the scenes.
