WNBA analyst breaks down Angel Reese’s compelling case to win DPOY award
As the WNBA regular season draws to a close, there are awards to discuss, but one analyst is sure that the DPOY should belong to Angel Reese.
Angel Reese is enjoying an excellent season with the Atlanta Dream. As the team gets ready for the playoffs, Reese has shown consistent improvement.
While her offensive output has been hit or miss at times, she has been excellent on the defensive end. The 3-time All-Star has been good enough to be considered a contender for Defensive Player of the Year.
Nekias Duncan of Yahoo Sports has laid out her case in detail, and it is a little hard to deny.

Reese is set to pick up her third consecutive rebounding title this season. She is a menace on the boards, and her on-ball defending has improved, too.
However, nothing proves a point better than cold, hard facts. Duncan broke it down for those who may not believe Reese deserves it.
“Angel Reese = DPOY,” the analyst wrote on X.
“Activity: 3rd in steals (1.8), 4th in defensive rebounds (7.5)
“Volume: has defended most DHOs (310), 3rd most PnRs (850)
“Matchup difficulty: 2nd most touches defended vs this year’s frontcourt (4s & 5s) All-Stars (571)
“Role shifting: Tasked with defending more 5s, career-high in drop coverage volume (plus impressive nuance tied to it).
“Impact: 99.3 DRTG with her on the floor rivals GSV’s (98.6), best-among-the-candidates on/off differential, the biggest swing factor for ATL’s event creation with lineup data to bolster the case.”
Gabby Wilson is the DPOY favourite at the moment, according to many. A’ja Wilson is also in with a shout. However, it’s hard to argue that Reese doesn’t deserve it when looking at the numbers.
