Witcher 3 Remastered All But Confirms A Beloved Feature For Witcher 4

· · 3 min read

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s upcoming Songs of the Past expansion are the amuse-bouche and appetizer to CD Projekt Red’s entrée, The Witcher 4. This will make the wait for the fourth mainline installment much more tolerable, though it’s quite remarkable that The Witcher 4 is slated for a 2028 release.

It’s tough to say with any certainty what mechanics and features the game will have, as we’ve only seen an Unreal Engine tech demo for The Witcher 4 and no legitimate gameplay, though we do have official confirmation that The Witcher 4 will be an open-world game and reprise The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s gwent minigame. Plus, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered may have given us several clues about The Witcher 4‘s gameplay, including a feature that took 11 years to appear in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt without fan-made mods.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was still one of the best open-world RPGs of the 2010s, and maybe of all time, when it was in its vanilla form prior to the remaster update. Indeed, it’s a little unorthodox for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered to not be its own distinct game, and instead essentially be a patch that players received freely and involuntarily if they had already owned the game, as remasters and remakes are typically sold separately. Alas, here we are.

CD Projekt Red has been ironing out kinks since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launched at the end of September, but it has still been met with overwhelming praise due to how significant some of its new features are. While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered‘s new meditation presentation is neat, the two features that are tied as the best and most highly anticipated are probably transmog and the option to remove the inventory weight limit.

To be fair, until you painstakingly obtain and upgrade witcher school gear sets in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it’s not particularly important what armor you have equipped, and all gear arguably pales in comparison to witcher school gear, anyway.

Transmog is coveted for almost every game ever that has stats associated with specific gear because it lets players wear the gear they like the look of most without having to sacrifice the stats they want. It seems as if such games are genetically engineered to allocate inferior or undesirable stats to the best-looking gear, and vice versa. Thus, transmog is always beneficial as an option.

The Odds Of The Witcher 4 Not Having Transmog Are Low

It seems like a no-brainer that The Witcher 4 will have transmog. To finally have transmog in the remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is basically an admission of the developers knowing how much players wanted it as a feature, so to then not have that feature be baked into The Witcher 4 at launch would be surprising (and transmog would be great to have in vanilla Witcher 4 anyway).

It’s kind of bizarre that we had to wait 11 years for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to add transmog as an official feature. CD Projekt Red has given itself a tall order to fulfill by delivering players such a massive overhaul of features in the remaster. It will now be expected that all of these features and more will be present in The Witcher 4 (meaning we shouldn’t be needing to worry that Ciri’s inventory will have a weight limit if we don’t want it to, either).

Fans will surely be rabid and eager to make note of whether The Witcher 4 neglects any of the features added to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the remaster, including transmogrification.
