Wisconsin high school quarterback dies from injuries sustained during game
A Wisconsin high school football quarterback died after injuries that were sustained following the team’s season-opening game on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Adam Massman, a senior at Alma Center Lincoln High in central Wisconsin, died after Lincoln’s game against Turtle Lake due to injuries sustained during the game. Lincoln ultimately won, 42-18.
“Adam was active in our Lincoln community, participating in multiple sports, clubs, and activities making friends everywhere he went,” Superintendent Drew Semingson said in a statement. “This loss touches our Lincoln family in many ways. Adam’s family has deep connections throughout our schools.”
According to a statement provided to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, EMT were onsite at the game and Massman was taken to the hospital. It’s unclear what injury Massman sustained, as the district is only releasing information approved by the family.
The school is open to students, parents and friends if they need to meet with counselors, and counseling support would be available Monday, Aug. 24, at noon through Tuesday.
