Will CSU and Wyoming rivalry continue through conference realignment?

The 2026 Border War is the earliest football meeting in the long history between Colorado State and Wyoming.

The teams play Sept. 5 at Canvas Stadium to open the 2026 season. The matchup happens so early due to conference realignment.

A conference has always been shared by the rivals. Until now. CSU is now in the Pac-12 and Wyoming is in the Mountain West. Realignment has seen many rivalries be shelved across college football, but the Border War will continue with a contract signed through the mid 2030s.

The biggest question right now is 2027. The teams don’t currently have a game lined up for next season, but the schools said they’re working on it in a Sept. 2 release announcing matchups in other sports.
