Wike suspends FCTA director, gives reason

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has suspended a director in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA.

Speaking during a media parley on Wednesday, Wike, said the unnamed director was suspended under civil service rules for issuing unauthorised ‘temporary approvals’ to commercial operators on designated green zones.

The minister said his administration has intensified enforcement against violations linked to the recent flooding along the Airport Road axis and Lokogoma District.

He equally disclosed that beyond structural enforcement, the FCTA is taking stern administrative action against officials within the administration who facilitate illegal encroachments into green areas and waterways.

According to him, another official also faced disciplinary sanctions for illegally reallocating park lands under the guise of security clearing.

He said a high-level task force led by the executive secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, and the director of Development Control, was immediately dispatched to conduct on-the-ground assessments across communities affected by the flooding, including Lugbe and Lokogoma.

“When I heard of the incident, the executive secretary of the FCDA and the director, Development Control had to go to the place, not only at the airport road but also in Lokogoma.

“The one that is man-made, we can solve the problem; the one that is natural, there is nothing we can do—it becomes a natural disaster. So, it’s something that we have to investigate”, he said.
