Why there’s no stable electricity supply in Nigeria – TCN ex-MD, Mohammed

Former Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Usman Mohammed, has revealed why there is no stable electricity supply in Nigeria.

He disclosed this in a recent interview on Oseni Rufai’s Nevon Podcast.

According to him, the country’s electricity challenges have persisted because the Nigerian government has made mistakes and continued in the same direction.

He said the Federal Government had put incompetent people in charge of managing the power sector, while corruption is another reason the country’s electricity supply challenges have persisted.

He noted that although former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration had good intentions to tackle the power sector’s challenges, its efforts hit a brick wall.

“The problem in the power sector has not been solved because we have made mistakes and continue to make mistakes.

“In Nigeria, we rush to do things without adequate studies. We put incompetent people in charge; that is why we have been failing and continue to fail,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that Nigeria’s power sector crisis had persisted for more than a decade after the sector’s privatisation.

The country continues to grapple with electricity generation of between 3,000 and 6,000 megawatts for an estimated population of 250 million.
