Why Jordan Henderson Missed Chelsea vs Manchester United

· · 1 min read

The lineups dropped for Chelsea vs Manchester United and once again Xabi Alonso had some surprises for his fans. Not only did the Blues go for what could be a back five again, he also went for a no striker system with Morgan Rogers, Estevao, and Cole Palmer up top. More important than that, there was no Jordan Henderson in the squad at all, the veteran midfielder was completely left out with Romeo Lavia starting instead. The veteran has been a composed midfielder who worked well alongside Moises Caicedo, so any absence would be worrying.

Latest Reports

It is mostly good news for fans as the midfielder has only missed the squad due to illness, according to Nizaar Kinsella. With all the injuries that the team have suffered recently, this is a positive update on his status. There appears to be something going through the squad as both Pep Chavarria and Malo Gusto have missed matches recently with different illnesses.

The Last Word

Injuries have been coming thick and fast for Alonso to deal with. The big hits are to senior members of the squad who helped set the mentality. We’ve now seen Emi Martinez, Reece James, and Henderson get sidelined, which is a significant knock to the leadership structure within the team. The side are already short on midfield options so any knock to the Englishman will risk overextending Lavia who has had his own injury issues.

It is good news then, that the veteran England international is only ill. He should be back ready to play in their next fixture without issue.
