Why is Luka Doncic not playing tonight vs. Clippers? Latest update on Lakers star

Luka Doncic has been central to the Los Angeles Lakers‘ strong start to the 2026-27 NBA season, delivering back-to-back scoring performances of 52 and 41 points in his last two appearances.

The Lakers now face a quick turnaround after Tuesday’s 136-129 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, their first defeat of the season. However, they will have to respond against the Los Angeles Clippers without their star guard, who has been ruled out for Wednesday night.

The latest update raises questions about the severity of the issue and whether he could miss more than one game.

Why is Luka Doncic not playing tonight vs Clippers?

The Lakers have ruled Doncic out against the Clippers because of back tightness, leaving them without their leading scorer on the second night of a back-to-back.

Doncic played 37 minutes against Portland, finishing with 41 points, five rebounds and nine assists. The Lakers have not provided further details about the issue or confirmed when he could return.

Ziaire Williams will also miss Wednesday’s game after being ruled out with left foot soreness.

With Doncic unavailable, Austin Reaves is among the players the Lakers will need to rely on. Reaves scored 26 points against Portland on Tuesday.

The previous meeting offers some encouragement for Los Angeles, which secured an eight-point victory over its rivals. However, Wednesday’s game presents a different challenge, with the Lakers playing on consecutive nights.

The Lakers and Clippers are scheduled to tip off at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
