Why I never won African Player of the Year – Okocha

Former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has spoken about not winning the African Player of the Year award during his career.

Responding to a question on the ObiOne podcast, Okocha claimed it was due to football politics.

The former PSG and Bolton Wanderers midfielder was asked if his failure to play for a top European club may have affected his chances of claiming the prize.

“No, no, no, not really. Not really,” Okocha said.

“Because some people, some players, they played in big clubs, they won everything but…”
