Vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained why his perception of the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, changed ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso said his interactions with Obi during coalition talks and the work of their joint committee convinced him that the former Anambra State governor is a dependable leader who shares a similar vision for Nigeria.

He made the remarks on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to him, although he believed he knew Obi and other senior politicians well before the 2023 election, subsequent engagements gave him a deeper understanding of the NDC presidential candidate.

He added that discussions between both camps and recommendations from their joint committee strengthened his confidence in Obi.

Kwankwaso also described Obi as “a very serious politician” who has the country’s interest at heart and can be relied upon.

Kwankwaso said: “Now you see, every day we are learning. Even if you are 100 years old today, tomorrow definitely you learn something. Something new would happen, and I’m happy to say that by before the 2023 election, I believe I knew a lot about Peter Obi and many other senior politicians in this country.

“But based on what we started discussing, and of course, based on what our joint committee was bringing to us, I believe I know much more than I knew before the 2023 election.

“Now I know that Peter is a very serious politician. He has this country in mind, he is somebody that one can rely on, and so on and so forth.

“And our blueprints, the ones he has and the one that we have, when we compare it, just few adjustments, we realise that we have a similar vision and mission for the country.

“So that’s why it was very easy for us to come and work together as a family.”
