Why four-star WR Dontay Tyson committed to Washington football

The Washington Huskies have been on a roll recruiting wide receivers in the 2027 class and on Friday evening, Jedd Fisch and position coach Kevin Cummings added a fourth blue-chip prospect in four-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson.

Tyson, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound product of Peoria High School in Arizona, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 39 wide receiver by 247Sports, picked the Huskies over 19 other offers, including the Texas A&M Aggies, his other finalist, where he was scheduled to take an official visit on June 12.

However, thanks to a strong relationship with Washington’s coaching staff, the Huskies were able to win the day.

“The coaching staff is amazing,” Tyson told Rivals’ Brandon Huffman. “And they are not scared to play freshmen…The environment is great. A good vibe mixed with a real family atmosphere. Coach Fisch runs things like a pro franchise, but the team is still super close-knit.”

Since its arrival, Fisch’s coaching staff has taken a lot of pride in building strong relationships with recruits, and Tyson, who was on campus for Junior Day in March ahead of his official visit on May 29, is no exception.

“Coach Fisch is sharp as it gets; his NFL background shows in everything,” Tyson added. “Coach KC brings amazing energy and is a master developer with receivers. I love their vision.”

Tyson joins a class that features four-star prospects Tre Moore, Braylon Pope, and Zerek Sidney, while Fisch and Cummings have also made Washington a serious contender for top 50 prospect Osani Gayles, who was on campus for his official visit on June 5 and is set to announce his commitment on June 27.
