Why Bayern Munich might need to manage without Harry Kane and Michael Olise in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup

With the 2026 World Cup slowly fading into memory, the new club season is about to begin in a few weeks. Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund on the 23rd of August with most of the squad fit and ready, with a few key notable exceptions.

With England and France both making the semi-finals, certain key players were given an extended vacation by Vincent Kompany. Thus, while most of the squad returned to training a few weeks ago, Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano, and Michael Olise will only report to the team’s performance center for fitness tests near the end of this week (Kicker via @iMiaSanMia).

That means the trio will lag behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness, not joining team training until Supercup week. So, against Borussia Dortmund, Vincent Kompany might have to manage without his three key players — or at least not have them at full capacity. Who he chooses as replacements could determine the future pecking order on the depth chart this coming season.
