Why a mariachi band did the national anthem on Monday Night Football

The Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears had a unique beginning.

The national anthem was played by a mariachi band.

The national anthem was performed by Mariachi Herencia de México.

The performance honored Hispanic Heritage Month.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. It recognizes the history, culture and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
