New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has long solidified himself as college football’s favorite villain. The first-year Tigers head coach is currently embroiled in an eligibility battle to play former NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright. 

But several fans familiar with Kiffin’s antics might be wondering, “what has he been saying on social media about this?” In year’s past, Kiffin would have been expected to live-tweet the whole situation. 

But as of the fall of 2026, Kiffin’s social media have been very quiet.

Why did Lane Kiffin disappear from social media?

Kiffin’s social media presence has been part of his persona as one of college football’s most loved and hated main characters. For over a decade, Kiffin has been known to troll his former school, Tennessee, and Vol fans on X, formerly known as Twitter. 

The LSU head coach actively posted on social media throughout his coaching career. He did so while he was at Alabama, as head coach at Florida Atlantic, and throughout his time as Ole Miss’ head coach from 2020 through last year. 

For example he trolled Brian Kelly after his Ole Miss team beat LSU last season:

When the rumors began to swirl that he was going to leave Ole Miss for the LSU job, his social media posts were becoming so cryptic that we compiled an entire story tracking them all. 

After he accepted the LSU job, the posts continued into the winter and spring. From posting about landing recruits, to just random photos of LSU’s various football facilities, his posts seemed like a stream of consciousness:

But early in the summer, Kiffin’s social media posts went silent. A couple months later at SEC Media Days in July, Coach Kiffin told reporters that his silence stemmed from a bet with his son Knox, who apparently didn’t think he could stay off of it.  

“Really, it just started with Knox, my son, was sitting there and he’s like, ‘You’re on social media; I bet you couldn’t get off,'” Kiffin said via a local LSU radio host Matt Moscona. “If you follow me, if you tell me I can’t do something, that’s really a good way to get me to do it.” 

“So I just got off of everything,” he continued. “Got off of it. Don’t even have the apps, so it’s not even like I read it either… I just wanted to show him I could do it. It’s been really interesting as I look back over my life and my journey, a lot of great things have come when I’ve subtracted things out of my life and I’ve eliminated them.”

“My kids have learned that too. If they really want something, just say I can’t do it, and I’m going to do it,” Kiffin said later at the podium at SEC Media Days. And so I’m like, ‘Oh, I bet I can.’And it really wasn’t a plan. So I got off of all of it. Then it was still on there. I said, okay, I’m going to go to another level, and I just deleted the apps. Wasn’t a long-term plan. 

“It was really interesting to see as I went through it because Knox pushing me to do that, challenging me, allowed me to help other players, friends, coaches to say, man, you should try this sometime because once you remove something from your life, you start to realize how many other people are addicted to it or need it.”

When did Lane Kiffin disappear from social media?

Kiffin’s social media posts went silent around mid-May, but he posted what appeared to be a signal that it would be his last on June 18. He posted a Michael Jordan ad, which read that it was “time to go ghost:”

In his explanation about going off social media at SEC Media Days, he actually made some good arguments about the effects of social media in general.

“Because now social media does what?” Kiffin added. “You sit there all day long, and you start to compare your job. You start to compare the city you live in. You start to compare your vacation, your kids, your clothes, your car, your significant other. When you don’t see that all day, you’re free of that comparison.”

Will Lane Kiffin return to social media?

It appears that Kiffin will remain off social media for now, with the exception of posting advertisements that he is featured in. His first post since the hiatus was one of his Dr. Pepper college football ads:

For now, it appears that Kiffin’s social media posts will remain quiet for most of the 2026 season.
