What free agent guards would make sense for the Boston Celtics?
As we head into the offseason, it’s clear that the point guard position is a genuine area of need for the Boston Celtics. Ideally, Brad Stevens can locate a guard who can provide some rim-pressure, interior scoring and playmaking, while also being capable of knocking down their three-point shots at a reliable clip.
Fortunately for the Celtics, there’s a handful of talented guards hitting the free agency market this summer, with Coby White, Collin Sexton and Anfernee Simons among the bigger names. Armed with the non-taxpayer mid-level-exception, the Celtics could extend an offer to one of that trio, or any other free agent guard this summer, as Boston looks to avoid another first-round postseason exit.
During a recent episode of the “Celtics Chronicle” podcast, hosts Adam Taylor and Mike Weber broke down a list of impending free-agent ball-handlers who would not only make sense for the Celtics, but potentially improve the current rotation, either as part of the second string or as a member of the starting unit.
