This weekend marks a big opportunity for the Cleveland Guardians to push for a postseason spot as they welcome the floundering Detroit Tigers for a four-game set. 

The series begins with a split doubleheader Friday, the opener a makeup of a game rained out on June 14. Cleveland will try to continue its strong play of late, which has seen the Guardians not only move into AL wild card position but also narrow their deficit to the White Sox in the division race. 

They’re catching the Tigers at the right time, with the slim postseason hopes Detroit harbored after dealing Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize at the trade deadline evaporating amid a series of ugly losses this week.
