What bigs could the Boston Celtics target with the TPE?

The Boston Celtics are heading into the summer with a $27.7 million traded player exception (TPE) at their disposal. Brad Stevens could use the exception to help round out the current roster, ideally by using it to acquire a starting-level big man or a talented guard who can improve the backcourt. Either way, the TPE has potential to become a vital team-building tool.

Celtics fans have been here before, though. Those same fans know that Boston is notorious for kicking the can down the road when it comes to utilizing trade exceptions. However, this summer could be different, especially after a humbling elimination during the opening round of the 2026 playoffs.

With that in mind, Adam Taylor and Mike Weber recently explored a potential list of big man targets who could emerge as viable additions using the TPE. Ranging from Myles Turner to Isaiah Stewart, there’s a range of centers that could make sense for the Celtics, depending on how they envision themselves playing next season. As such, Adam and Mike explored each potential target’s hypothetical fit within the rotation and what gaps they could plug within the current team.
