What are the rules on overseas players in The Hundred?

In The Hundred, teams are allowed to field a maximum of four overseas players during a match.

Teams are not permitted to have more than four overseas players contracted to their squad at any time.

In Wednesday’s match in the men’s competition, London Spirit fielded five players not originally from the United Kingdom against MI London.

Adam Zampa, Dewald Brevis, Adam Milne and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Spirit’s four overseas men’s players, all featured.

Alongside the quartet was bowler Andrew Tye. The 39-year-old has played 39 times for Australia across one-day and T20 internationals.

Upon signing domestically for Yorkshire earlier this year, Tye signed a contract qualifying as a domestic player due to having family links to the UK.

When Tye replaced Adam Hose in the Spirit’s squad, it was as a domestic player and not overseas.

Another example from this season is pace bowler Mohammed Amir, who has played 159 times for Pakistan across all three formats and is part of the Trent Rockets squad this year.

Amir holds a British passport as his wife is a UK citizen, so he therefore qualifies as a domestic player.

And Dan Worrall, who has previously played three one-day matches for Australia, played for the Spirit across 2024 and 2025.

As he holds a British passport, he too qualifies as a domestic player, and so the team did not require the use of an overseas spot.
