Wendy Achumba: Abia Speaker vows to pursue justice for slain nursing student
The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has assured the family of slain Abia nursing student, Miss Wendy Achumba, that her killers will not escape the wrath of the law.
Miss Wendy, a 21-year-old student of Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School, Unuologho Obowo, Imo State, was raped and murdered in her off-campus residence.
The Speaker gave this assurance on Monday when he visited the family of the deceased at their residence in Aba.
Emeruwa, who stated that the Abia State House of Assembly had recently raised the matter during plenary, told the bereaved family that a motion was move to expedite the Abia government’s action on the murder case.
He assured the family that he had taken keen interest on the matter, pointing out that the State House of Assembly and the state government are determined to secure justice against the suspected killers.
Speaking on behalf of the family of the bereaved, Rev. T. O. Ikpemmadu of the United Evangelical Church described the murder of their daughter as a heavy pain but thanked the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and the state government for their move to secure justice in the case.
