Well, College Sports Just Got Rocked Again, This Time By A Judge
In a bit of ACC news, Judge Charlotte Sweeney, out of Colorado, has ruled that every freshman in the 2022 class now gets an extra year.
This is going to be a combination of hilarious and stupid the likes of which we rarely see.
Locally, it means that Seth Trimble gets an extra year, which he might choose to spend in Chapel Hill, or elsewhere, or possibly not at all.
It also means that UNC could bring back Jalen Washington, if he was so inclined. They’ve also been pursuing former Florida backup center Micah Handlogten.
Presumably, Michael Malone and the Tar Heel staff now have more post options as well.
Across the country, this will cause absolute chaos. For one, while many teams – Duke for instance – have built their rosters already, others may find better options and cut guys loose. And a lot of high school players may see their plans altered.
This is going to be somewhat like the annual coaching carousel that sometimes cranks back up unexpectedly when a late change takes place.
It’s going to get crazy, and a lot of players, whether fifth year seniors or incoming freshmen, are going to get dumped for someone better.
At the end, it’s going to be musical chairs on an insane level, and a whole lot of people will be without a chair when all is said and done.
