‘We won’t accept foot soldiers arrested while masterminds walk free’ — Sowore
The African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Ekiti State Police Command of failing to go after the alleged masterminds of the attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, despite announcing the arrest of 11 suspects.
Sowore made the allegation in a statement shared on X, insisting that the police must identify and arrest those who allegedly planned, financed and coordinated the attack.
He described the arrest of the 11 suspects as an admission that the incident was not an ordinary altercation, as the police had initially claimed.
He maintained that it was an assassination attempt carried out by government-sponsored thugs.
Sowore called for an investigation into the alleged suspects, some of whom he said are linked to the City Boys group, demanding that possible connections with officials of the Ekiti State Government be investigated.
The presidential candidate urged the Ekiti Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, and the Department of State Services, DSS, to preserve and release CCTV footage of the incident to help identify those involved.
He also questioned why the police initially described the incident as an altercation before announcing the arrest of 11 suspects.
“We will not accept the arrest of foot soldiers while the masterminds walk free,” Sowore said.
He demanded an independent investigation and the prosecution of everyone implicated by the evidence, including those he accused of sponsoring and coordinating the attack.
