"We could have made five substitutions at half-time" – Demichelis reacts to Bayern rout

After back-to-back home wins, RB Leipzig’s struggles on the road continued on Saturday as they suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, extending their losing streak away from home to four games in four attempts this season.

Martin Demichelis was left deeply disappointed by his side’s performance, explaining that the manner of the defeat was particularly difficult to accept.

“We owe our fans an apology. You can lose in Munich, but not like that. It’s a tough defeat to take. As the coach, I’m more disappointed than anyone. We were too passive without the ball and offered nothing when we had possession. We looked like a completely different team to the one we’ve seen in the last two games,” Demichelis said.

The Argentine coach made two substitutions at the interval after his side went into the break trailing 3-0, but admitted he could have made all five changes available to him.

“We could have made five substitutions at half-time. But this isn’t about individual players – it’s about the team as a whole. You can criticise me, but please don’t single out individual players.”
