The 29-year-old left-hander’s strikeout celebration is unlike anything ever seen in the major leagues. It was delivered twice in his major league debut on Wednesday night against the Guardians at Progressive Field.

Yan struck out Angel Martinez, the first batter he faced in his major league career, freezing the Guardians pinch-hitter on a 1-2 slider on the inner half of the plate to open the sixth inning.

The Dominican Republic native’s jubilation grew in energy as the stakes ratcheted up. With the Mets leading 4-3, Yan gave up back-to-back singles and walked Steven Kwan to load the bases.

Yan was able to get Chase DeLauter to go too far on a check swing on a slider out of the strike zone. The Mets lefty dropped into his split and scrambled forward to cover home plate. The sequenced ended up prompting Steven Vogt to be ejected from the game and drawing ire from the Guardians fans.

Yan completed the inning by picking up a ground ball up the middle, sliding his hand along the infield grass and recoiling into a fist bump after recording the final out of the frame to keep the Mets’ one-run edge.
