WATCH: Ex-Cowboys defender on video in heated NSFW locker-room exchange

Not even one calendar year ago, Perrion Winfrey was being hailed as the Cowboys‘ next great reclamation project.

Now a fuller picture is perhaps becoming clearer of why it didn’t work out with a Brian Schottenheimer-led Dallas roster supposedly being built on culture.

A new video clip, taken from 4th & Goal, the all-access TV series documenting the UFL’s 2026 season, shows Winfrey and his Birmingham Stallions head coach A.J. McCarron in an extremely heated (and very NSFW) exchange during halftime of the team’s Week 4 game against Orlando.

After a profanity-laden tirade from McCarron in which he implores his team to “Wake the [expletive] up!” and “Stop all this [expletive] crying and [expletive]!” Winfrey is held back by teammates as he, according to soundbite audio that serves as the show’s narration, is seen “going off on the defensive coaches and some of the defensive players.”

“Get your [expletive] hands off me,” Winfrey barks at one point as he is pulled away from a confrontation. “[Expletive] this. [Expletive] this.”

Winfrey is then led into a hallway where the tense altercation continues. Several players are seen attempting to diffuse the situation, while multiple Stallions staffers physically try to block cameras from getting a better view.

“You a [expletive]!” Winfrey shouts. “You a [expletive], bro! Don’t you ever disrespect me!”

Winfrey then turns his anger toward his head coach and the Stallions’ locker room at large.

“Sorry-[expletive] team! Get your [expletive] team together, A.J.! You all get your [expletive] kicked every [expletive] week!”

Winfrey had been signed by the Stallions only two weeks earlier in what was his second stint with the team. But he had clearly already worn out his welcome; his halftime meltdown was apparently just the final straw.

“We can’t put up with that dude any more,” McCarron can be heard saying. “It’s a cancer.”

Winfrey was released three days later. He implied in a social media post at the time that he elected to leave the team; other reports said the club tried to trade him and then cut him when they could not find a partner.

Winfrey subsequently signed with Columbus; he lasted less than a month before being released again.

Once a fourth-round draft pick of the Browns in 2022, legal troubles hastened Winfrey’s first exit from the NFL after just one season in Cleveland and another year spent mostly on the Jets’ practice squad.

He joined the UFL’s Birmingham club in late 2024 and made the spring league’s all-star squad as he helped guide the Stallions to a 7-3 record and a 2025 playoff appearance.

That performance was enough for the Cowboys to take notice. They signed him in June 2025, shortly after the completion of the UFL postseason. Winfrey was impressive in camp and went on to be the only UFL player to make an NFL opening-day roster.

Fans may recall that Winfrey had a rather emotional reaction when Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer informed him he had made the team. Winfrey had assumed he was getting cut, and an erroneous report to that effect even went public before Schottenheimer called him in for the surprise good news. The coach noted Winfrey’s passion and called him a “special young man” in relaying the story to reporters.

But his promising comeback season was cut short by a back injury suffered just after the Cowboys’ Week 1 game, and he landed on injured reserve. Winfrey was re-activated later in the season and made it onto the field in just one contest, notching a pair of tackles on 40 total snaps in Week 16’s loss to the Chargers.

He was released by Dallas just before the start of free agency and re-signed with Birmingham on April 2. The Stallions’ game versus the Orlando Storm- and Winfrey’s own tempestuous locker-room outburst- would come just 16 days later.
