Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wants Draymond Green to shoot more often

Ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors are planning to make some tactical changes. While the team’s game plan wasn’t revealed, head coach Steve Kerr has publicly spoken about the idea of letting power forward Draymond Green attempt 3-pointers more often.

During a recent podcast appearance, Kerr said, “I want him shooting the three when he’s open. When he shoots a three, he may not be a super high percentage shooter, but possessions are good for us when he shoots.”

In an episode of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” Green recently addressed the thought of shooting more, saying, “I had never really heard him (Steve Kerr) like confidently look me in my eyes and say to me, like, ‘Yo, I want you shooting the basketball.’ Even when I was shooting the ball great, it was just something that I had never heard. And so when he told me, like, the confidence level raised immediately, like, oh man, like, Coach wants me to shoot.”

Throughout his career, Green has attempted an average of 2.8 3-pointers per game, converting on 0.9 of them. That said, there was an uptick in his shooting last season, attempting 4.6 3-pointers per game, the most of his career. In 949 contests, Green has converted on 32.1% of shots from beyond the arc. His strongest shooting season came during the 2023-24 campaign, where he converted on 39.5% of triples. However, it’s worth noting that Green has shot over 34% from beyond the arc in just two of his 14 seasons. If able to slightly improve on these numbers, another dimension will be added to Steve Kerr’s offense.
