Wales fly-half Evans returns to Cardiff from Quins
Wales fly-half Jarrod Evans has returned to Cardiff after three seasons with Harlequins.
The 29-year-old will play for the United Rugby Championship (URC) quarter-finalists and look to add to his 17 caps.
Evans made 126 appearances for the Blue and Blacks in his first stint, scoring 765 points and winning the Challenge Cup in 2018.
The playmaker moved to Harlequins in 2023 and made 48 appearances when battling for the 10 jersey with England and British and Irish Lions fly-half Marcus Smith.
“I feel like I have matured as a player and person, it’s good to get different experiences,” said Evans.
“I’ve had three seasons with Harlequins where I was out of my comfort zone, experiencing a different environment and style, so hopefully there are things I can bring back to Cardiff.”
Cardiff qualified for the URC play-offs for the first time last season after missing out by a point in 2025 and lost just once at the Arms Park.
“I want to help build on the success I’ve seen since I left,” said Evans, who moved to Quins when the Blue and Blacks were unable to offer competitive contracts due to financial constraints.
“We have so many good, young, talented players coming through with some established senior internationals as well.
“I just want to add what I can, and hopefully the club can go on and build on last season.”
He will aim to force his way back into the Wales squad after missing out on the summer tour to Dan Edwards and Sam Costelow.
Evans has featured six times for Steve Tandy and scored the match-winning penalty in the autumn win against Japan.
Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl hopes to profit from a battle for the starting 10 jersey at the Arms Park.
“Moving into the Champions Cup, we felt fly-half was an area we needed to strengthen and he (Evans) will now compete with Callum Sheedy and Ioan Lloyd in a pivotal position for the team where we have some real strength,” he said.
“Everyone at the Arms Park will know his attacking style of play and I am looking forward to seeing that, but he has also developed his game at Quins.
“He has a really balanced game between attacking and control. He will also bring a lot off the pitch, helping drive our standards, culture and environment.”
Evans is Cardiff’s fourth signing after deals for centre Le Roux Malan, loose-head prop Scott Sio and flanker or lock Semisi Paea.
