WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons aim to defend title, secure World Cup berth — Babajide

Super Falcons striker Omorinsola Babajide has outlined the team’s ambition ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.

Justine Madugu’s side will be aiming for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title when hostilities begin in Morocco later this month.

The WAFCON 2026 finals will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons have qualified for every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the competition was introduced in 1991.

Babajide, who is expected to be named in Nigeria’s squad for Africa’s biggest women’s football competition stated that winning the title, and securing a place at the World Cup will be the team’s main priority.

“For us as a team, whether we are playing just to be crowned champions of Africa or for qualification to next year’s World Cup, the pressure is the same as we want to win,” the AS Roma star told thenff.com.

“The only pressure actually is the one we put on ourselves. We know what we signed up for as professionals and being the defending champions, we want to retain our trophy.”

The Super Falcons will begin their title defence against the Scorchers of Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat on Tuesday, 28 July.

They will also face Zambia, and Egypt in their other Group C fixtures.
