WAFCON 2026: Okoronkwo returns to action in major boost for Super Falcons

Esther Okoronkwo has handed the Super Falcons a timely boost ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after returning from injury, DAILY POST reports.

Okoronkwo was sidelined for close to two months after suffering a meniscus tear during AFC Toronto’s league clash with Halifax last month.

The 29-year-old featured for 25 minutes in AFC Toronto’s 3-1 victory over Vancouver on Sunday.

AFC Toronto recorded just one win, two defeats and two draws in five league matches during her absence.

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu is now expected include the versatile forward is his squad for WAFCON 2026.

Okoronkwo was one of the stars at the last edition of the WAFCON hosted by Morocco.

She scored two goals,and registered six assists in six appearances at the competition.

The Super Falcons have been placed in Group C with Malawi, Zambia and Egypt for their WAFCON 2026 title defence.

Justine Madugu’s side will begin their campaign against debutants Malawi in Rabat on Tuesday, 28 July.
