WAEC, Ministry of Education debunk rumoured cancellation of 2025 WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Federal Ministry of Education have firmly denied reports alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to examination malpractice.

In separate press statements released today, both institutions described the circulating claims as false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to incite panic among candidates and stakeholders.

According to WAEC, the marking of the 2025 WASSCE scripts has just been concluded, and the results are scheduled to be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.

The Council emphasized that the said examination “has not been cancelled” and no official communication regarding cancellation was issued.

The statement, signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, urged the public to rely solely on verified sources, including WAEC’s official website and social media handles, for accurate information.

In a corresponding release dated July 20, 2025, the Federal Ministry of Education echoed WAEC’s position, warning the public against believing or spreading fabricated claims. The Ministry clarified that it had received no official report from either WAEC or NECO concerning any cancellation related to examination malpractice.

“The Federal Ministry of Education urges students, parents, and school administrators to disregard the fake press release currently in circulation. It is entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic and confusion,” the statement read.
