Dangut also disclosed that candidates whose results had been released and whose sponsorship obligations had been fulfilled could access their results through the WAEC result portal within 12 hours of the announcement. He added that eligible candidates could also apply for their digital certificates, which would be made available within 48 hours.

Giving a breakdown of the performance, he said 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of the total candidature, secured credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

He noted, however, that the performance reflected a decline of 1.42 percentage points compared with the 2025 examination.

Of the candidates who attained the benchmark, 558,883 were male, representing 28.65 per cent of the total candidature, while 641,631 were female, accounting for 32.89 per cent.

On examination malpractice, Dangut revealed that WAEC withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of those who sat the examination, over allegations of various forms of examination misconduct.

He said the affected cases would be investigated and reviewed by the Nigeria Examinations Committee before final decisions are taken.

According to him, the council, working in collaboration with security agencies, apprehended several individuals involved in examination malpractice during the exercise.

He also disclosed that some supervisors and invigilators found aiding candidates to cheat had been arrested and would face disciplinary measures through the appropriate state ministries of education.

Dangut reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to preserving the integrity of its examinations through stricter monitoring, enhanced security measures and sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders to curb examination malpractice.
