Vote for the Register male Athlete of the Week for May 31-June 6

The week of May 31-June 6 saw the 2026 IHSAA boys state soccer tournament take place at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines.

Teams from the metro area did well at the state tournament. Waukee Northwest won the Class 4A title, Des Moines Hoover claimed the 3A championship and Des Moines Christian was runner-up in 2A.

Ankeny Centennial and Norwalk also had a successful week at state soccer. The Jaguars placed second in 4A, and Norwalk was runner-up in 3A.

The boys state team tennis tournament also took place during the week. Waukee Northwest repeated as 2A champion and Cedar Rapids Xavier won again in 1A.

It was also a busy week of high school baseball.

There were several standout individual performances by male athletes from the metro area during the week.

Here are the Des Moines Register’s male Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of May 30-June 6. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Ramadhani was named captain of the 3A all-tournament team at the state soccer tournament after leading Hoover to a state championship.

He scored the only goal of the game during the Huskies’ 1-0 semifinal win over Dallas Center-Grimes on June 3. The defensive attention he drew during Hoover’s 4-3 win over Norwalk in the championship game on June 5 helped set up his teammates for two penalty kicks.

Alicic had a hand in two goals for Northwest during the Wolves’ 3-1 victory over Centennial in the 4A title game of the state soccer tournament on June 5.

He tallied one goal and one assist for Northwest during its triumph in the championship game. He also scored the lone goal during the Wolves’ 1-0 semifinal win over Urbandale on June 3.

Bruggemen played a huge role in getting Des Moines Christian into the 2A title game at the state soccer tournament.

He netted the only score of the game during the Lions’ 1-0 semifinal win over No. 2 seed Unity Christian on June 5.

Scavo was a weapon for Norwalk during the state soccer tournament.

He had one goal and three assists during a 5-0 quarterfinal win over Linn-Mar on June 1. He scored both goals during the Warriors’ 2-0 semifinal win over Xavier on June 3, and he tallied one goal and one assist in their 4-3 loss to Hoover in the 3A title game on June 5.

Blake threw an outstanding game for the Indianola baseball team during a 10-0 victory over DCG on June 3.

He went all six innings on the mound, tossing a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks.

Blake was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs and one RBI.
