The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and track down those responsible for deadly attacks in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

Nyameh also urged the Taraba State Government to intervene urgently following attacks on Binnari village and other communities in the area, which reportedly claimed dozens of lives and left several residents injured.

He described the attacks as heartbreaking and regrettable, expressing concern over the loss of lives, destruction of property and suffering inflicted on affected residents.

In a statement issued on Monday in Jalingo, the Accord Party candidate called on Governor Agbu Kefas to visit the affected communities to commiserate with bereaved families, assess the extent of the destruction and ensure the immediate provision of relief materials and other assistance to victims.

He urged security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas, apprehend those responsible for the violence and ensure they were brought to justice.

Nyameh stressed the need for concrete and sustainable security measures to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents of Karim-Lamido and other vulnerable communities across the state.

“The security challenges confronting residents of Karim-Lamido and other parts of Taraba require urgent attention. The protection of lives and property should not be concentrated in the state capital, Jalingo.

“Karim-Lamido deserves peace. Taraba State deserves peace. Every life matters, regardless of where people live,” he said.

He maintained that lasting peace could only be achieved when residents of Binnari, Karim-Lamido and other communities across the state could go about their daily activities without fear of attacks.

The governorship candidate further called on government officials, community leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together to address the state’s security challenges.

He warned against allowing affected communities to bear the consequences of the violence without adequate government intervention, insisting that urgent and coordinated action was necessary to protect residents and prevent further loss of lives.
