Vaibhav Sooryavanshi narrowly missed out on scoring his debut first-class century as he got dismissed for 92 in East Zone’s Duleep Trophy 2026 semi-final match against Central Zone in Bangaluru.

The 15-year-old made a brilliant counter-attack inning after East Zone started their innings in pursuit of Central Zone’s first-innings score, reaching his fifty in just 42 deliveries.

Sooryavanshi’s innings was cut short at 92 when he tried to reach the boundary line, eight runs short of a century.

He had a quiet time batting in the previous round, managing just eight runs as East Zone cruised to a dominant innings-and-210-run win over North East Zone.

What he lacked with the bat, though, he more than made up for with an unexpected turn as a bowler. Handed the ball by captain Ishan Kishan, the left-arm orthodox spinner struck twice in one over and finished with impressive figures of 2 for 11 across three overs.

Central Zone enter this contest having gone straight into the semi-final stage without needing to play a quarterfinal, meaning they arrive fresh and represent a serious test for East Zone.
