USA vs. Chile, 2026 Friendly: Man of the Match

· · 2 min read

The US got their second straight win, 4-2 over Chile on Tuesday night, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to keep the good times rolling. There were four different goal scorers on the night with Sebastian Berhalter, Julian Hall, Chris Richards, and Mathis Albert all put their names on the scoresheet.

Berhalter was the first to score after a slick Sergino Dest maneuver and fizzed ball across the box was smartly dummied by Hall so that a wide open Berhalter could slot home the opener.

The lead lasted less than ten minutes as Chile would score just before halftime after Chris Brady was unable to deal with a couple balls in the front of goal, leading to a total scramble with Diego Ulloa pushing the ball in to draw Chile level. Brady was among those who suffered in the community rankings, with just Miles Robinson and Frankie Westfield being the only two players clocking in lower than Brady’s 4.61 on the day.

Chile would take the lead shortly into the second half with Maximiliano Gutiérrez scoring, after a Frankie Westfield turnover near midfield, and a well taken shot to the bottom corner.  The lead was even shorter lived than the prior USMNT lead as Julian Hall would draw level, flicking home a header on a nice cross in from Gio Reyna.

Chris Richards would put the US back in front in the 72′ minute, slamming home a header off of a Sebastian Berhalter corner kick. Mathis Albert would close it out late with a lunging stoppage time goal to become the youngest scorer in USMNT history.

Not surprisingly the four goal scorers led the way in the community rankings. Thinking of Starters v Substitutes can be a little murky in a friendly where you’re changing half of your field players two-thirds of the way into the match but Chris Richards was one of the highest ranked players on the day, scoring a 7.7 for his 30 minutes of work that were a clear upgrade in CB action as well as the goal scored.

Ultimately though it was starter Sebastian Berhalter, who opened the scoring and played nearly the entire match, who was your SSFC Community Man of the Match for Tuesday’s performance, coming in with a 7.84 rating for his solid work on the night.
