The United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals working in ocean governance, the law of the sea, and sustainable development.

The programme is delivered in two phases. Fellows first undertake research and training at a selected host institution before completing a placement at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where they gain practical international experience and contribute to global policy discussions.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants should:

Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
Be between 25 and 45 years old.
Be employed by a government institution, academic institution, or non-governmental organization.
Demonstrate the ability to carry out independent research.
Show commitment to advancing ocean affairs, sustainable development, or international law.
Be a citizen of a developing country.
