UNC releases statement in support of Bill Belichick
As Week 1 of the college football season wraps up, the North Carolina Tar Heels are in the news once again.
It’s been 10 days since UNC opened up the season with a win in Ireland over TCU. That win got UNC off to a great start this season, moving to 1-0 in what is a very important second season under head coach Bill Belichick. But the past few days have been filled with negativity.
Last week, general manager Michael Lombardi resigned from the program just over a month after he was placed on paid leave. Then a report from WRAL stated that the program is currently under investigation. So not everything is rosy in Chapel Hill right now.
After Monday’s press conference with Belichick, which ended up being a circus due to questions about the investigation, the university is doing its best to clear up any rumors that may be out there. UNC vice chancellor for communications Dean Stoyer spoke to the Associated Press and gave a statement that they back Belichick.
“The University continues to support Bill Belichick and the Carolina football program,” said Dean Stoyer, UNC’s vice chancellor for communications.
Now, we don’t know exactly what the statement references, but Belichick did mention that the program “totally” has an atmosphere of following rules amid a school investigation. He told reporters that the school has been compliant with the investigation.
Rumors have swirled that Belichick could be on the hot seat, and this time it’s not all from how his team does on the field. A statement late on Monday shows support for Belichick, but it feels like this isn’t over just yet.
