Ukraine PM exits as Zelensky effects wartime cabinet change

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Y​uliia Svyrydenko, has stepped down from the position after one year in office, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday.

Svyrydenko​ became the 19th Prime Minister ​on July 17, 2025, after being approved by the ​parliament. She previously served as First Deputy PM and Economy Minister.

​Zelenesky ​explained that ​her exit is part of the “personnel changes” to the country’s top echelon to ensure the implementation of the updated political strategy.

The changes require a renewal of Ministers, according to Zelenesky, who has offered Svyrydenko the opportunity to lead a new and important area of relations with a key partner.

​”There will also be changes among the heads of law enforcement agencies​,” the Ukrainian leader ​hinted, noting that he expects lawmakers’ cooperation in the process.

​The wartime cabinet rejig aligns with Ukraine’s renewed “political strategy.” Each priority area of foreign policy will be assigned to an individual with substantial experience, Zelenesky said.

The important areas include the United States-Ukraine agreements on licenses to manufacture Patriot systems, as well as the general bilateral security cooperation.

Others are the European antiballistic project, which aims to strengthen the continent’s deterrence and defense; Actualization of Ukraine’s EU membership, and fostering deeper ties with Western allies.

Ukraine also seeks stronger relations with the Middle East, the Gulf region, and China, as well as key international organizations that influence global decisions and can do more to help end Russia’s war.
