UFC Vegas 118 results: Ketlen Souza KOs Ariane Carnelossi in 94 seconds

Ketlen Souza opened UFC Fight Night 278 with a bang when she put away Ariane Carnelossi in the first round.

Souza (17-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) pulled her octagon record above .500 when she cracked Carnelossi (15-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) with a huge punch that hurt her in the first round of the strawweight bout at Meta APEX. As her opponent tried to get up, Souza landed a perfectly timed kick that sat Carnelossi back down and forced the referee to step in for the knockout at the 1:34 mark of Round 1.

After the fight, a thrilled Souza said she knew she would be able to find the chin of Carnelossi early in their rematch and get redemption on a third-round TKO loss she suffered to her fellow Brazilian in May 2019.

“I’ve been waiting for Ariane for (seven) years, so I knew everything,” Souza told Paul Felder through an interpreter during her post-fight interview. “We knew I was going to come in and catch her.”
