Two brothers suspected of belonging to a terrorist group have abandoned their activities and surrendered to troops of the 25 Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The brothers, identified as 27-year-old Mustapha Tijani and 18-year-old Malayi Tijani, surrendered at about 3:30 p.m. on September 2, 2026.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the surrender followed recent cordon-and-search operations at an internally displaced persons, IDP, camp in Damboa town.

Makama said the commander of the 25 Brigade had also appealed to residents to encourage relatives involved in terrorist activities to renounce them and surrender to the authorities.

Preliminary interrogation reportedly showed that Mustapha and Malayi are biological brothers.

Their elder brother, Mallam Modu Tijani, was also said to have previously renounced terrorism and is currently residing at the Unity IDP Camp in Damboa.

“The two suspects are currently in the custody of the troops for further investigation and appropriate action,” the report stated.
