The Minnesota Twins have added a former All-Star starting pitcher to the organization.

Last week, the 11-year veteran was designated for assignment by the San Diego Padres after he posted a 5.26 ERA in 13 appearances, including 10 starts.

According to The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, right-hander German Marquez has signed a minor league contract with the Twins.

Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that the 31-year-old will report to Triple-A St. Paul.

Marquez was a reliable starter during his first full six seasons with the Colorado Rockies, making 29 or more starts five times.

The best season of his career came in 2018, when he posted a 3.77 ERA with 230 strikeouts in 196 innings while making all 33 of his scheduled starts.

From 2017-19, Marquez accumulated 10.5 of his 14.6 bWAR since making his debut in 2016.

Tommy John Surgery kept him on the shelf for most of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, and he posted a 6.70 ERA in 26 starts during his last season with the Rockies in 2025.

Marquez could join the Major League rotation while ace Joe Ryan is on the injured list, but it still might take at least one other injury for him to crack Minnesota’s top five.
