Tuchel delighted for Gordon after Barcelona move

Thomas Tuchel expressed his delight for Anthony Gordon after the England forward completed his transfer to Barcelona this summer.

After three-and-a-half years with Newcastle United, Gordon secured a reported €80m (£69.3m) move to Barcelona before heading off to the World Cup with the Three Lions. 

Despite a poor Premier League season in 2025-26, where he scored just six goals and provided two assists in 26 appearances, Gordon thrived in the Champions League.

He scored 10 goals in the Champions League in 2025-26, becoming just the second Englishman to reach double figures for goals in a single campaign in the competition, after Harry Kane in 2024-25.

Gordon will now aim to help Barcelona win a third consecutive LaLiga title, while also looking to deliver a first Champions League title since 2015.

“It’s excellent! It’s such a nice trip for me to watch matches,” Tuchel joked.

“I can only encourage people to go to nice places, and I can fly there to watch them play Champions League football.

“He will land in one of the biggest clubs in the world, totally new style of playing football and of course in a culture where winning every match matters.

“He wanted that. He wanted a new adventure. I’m happy for him, and I think it will only be good for his experience.”

Gordon’s England team-mate Marcus Rashford, who usually operates in the same left-wing role, is also hoping to make a permanent move to Barcelona this summer.

Rashford scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists while on loan with the Blaugrana in 2025-26, though the club are yet to decide whether they will make the move permanent.

“It is a slight quirk, yes,” Tuchel said on the situation with Gordon and Rashford.

“They can do what they do here, yes. We see it with Saka and Madueke. Let’s see what Marcus decides. I’m not involved in that, obviously.”
