TUC asks DSS to arrest alleged ASCSN impersonators, warns of legal action

The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has asked the Department of State Services, DSS, to arrest individuals impersonating the leadership of its affiliate union, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN.

The Secretary-General of TUC, Comrade Nuhu Toro, made the appeal in a statement on Monday.

According to him, TUC only recognises ASCSN under the leadership of Shehu Mohammed, pending the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

TUC stated that its position is consistent with the internal democratic processes of the union.

It added that the alleged impersonators’ reliance on a lower court judgment is faulty, as the ASCSN leadership under Mohammed had already appealed the judgment.

“Congress has observed with serious concern the activities of unauthorised individuals and groups parading themselves as leaders or representatives of ASCSN.

“These actions are not only illegal and constitute impersonation but also represent a direct affront to the unity, discipline, and institutional integrity of the labour movement, capable of undermining industrial peace and national stability.

“It is necessary to state that the impostors’ reliance on a lower court judgment is misleading and legally untenable, as the said judgment is currently under appeal by the Comrade Shehu Mohammed-led administration at the Court of Appeal.

“Accordingly, until the final determination of these matters by competent courts, these individuals lack any lawful authority to act, represent, or transact on behalf of ASCSN.

“We equally wish to draw the attention of all security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant law enforcement bodies, to these acts of illegality and impersonation, and urge immediate investigation and necessary action to restrain, prosecute, and deter such offenders,” parts of the statement read.
