Trump urges Iran to accept nuclear deal, warns of further action

US President Donald Trump has urged Iran to accept a nuclear agreement, saying Washington wants a deal that is effective and lasting.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said his administration had taken strong action against Iran and would continue to do so if necessary.

“They should sign the deal, it’s a good deal,” Trump said, adding that the proposal would stop Iran from “ever having a nuclear weapon.”

He stressed that the United States was seeking a serious agreement.

“We want a deal that’s meaningful, we want a deal that works,” he said.

Trump also claimed that the two sides had come close to reaching an agreement but accused Iranian leaders of delaying the process.

“We’ll see what happens, but we hit them hard yesterday and we’re going to hit them again hard today,” he said.

“We were really close to the deal but they keep tapping us along, they keep playing us for suckers.”
